A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of two Malaysian barongs hilted black with silver blades crossed saltirewise and between them a cross botonny divided quarterly in red and white on a maroon background above two green palm fronds and arced at the top a blue scroll, divided in three folds, the ends terminating behind the frond ends and inscribed "HELP TO HEAL" in silver letters.

Maroon and white are the colors used for the Army Medical Department.  The cross botonny taken from the Maryland State Flag refers to the present home locality of the organization.  The cross is also the traditional symbol used for aid and assistance and alludes to the unit's mission.  The barong, a heavy sheath knife used by natives of the Philippines, together with the palm fronds, symbolizes service in Luzon during World War II; the combined colors, blue, white and red refer to the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation awarded during that period.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 April 1973.
